In addition to the myriad types of consumer and industrial items transported by ferry, the port has a busy schedule of weekly cargo
arrivals. Boxes, Bananas, Pineapples, Grain, Fuel Pellets, Abnormal loads, Dover handles it all with ease!

Seatrade’s Emerald makes her final approach to the port in the evening sunshine. I took this from Chris Webb’s dive rib Copperhead
Diver.

The refrigerated cargo/container vessel Star First leaves Dover for Antwerp after discharging her
containerised consignment of fruit at the port. DHB Dauntless takes the stern whilst DHB Doughty assists with the bow as she is manouvered off the berth in preparation for her Eastern Entrance
departure. Once clear of the port the HPL prepares to disembark the pilot and return to port. This sequence of movements features in the ticker title at the top of this page.
One of two recent additions to Seatrade’s refrigerated container fleet is seen here at the Dover Cargo Terminal on the 31st October 2013. The Messina Strait
and her sister Magellan Strait were both regular visitors and are noticeable by their unusual profile. There is some doubt whether they will be returning to the port in 2014. Both vessels were
handed over at Limassol, Cyprus, in May 2013.
The Biglift vessel Tracer unloads the 600 tonnes transformer and on to Allely’s Heavy Haulage trailer on Sunday 8th December 2013. After initial unloading
problems were overcome and the transformer was landed, the vessel sailed for the French port of Le Havre later the same day. This was an unusual shipping movement for Dover and many lessons have been
learned as a result of handling something of this size and complexity. More details of this vessel and others in the fleet can be found at www.bigliftshipping.com
Seatrade’s Cold Stream leaves the port and prepares to disembark her pilot during the summer of 2013. Dating from 1994 and with a launch name of Prince of
Streams, this 8414 gross tonnes refrigerated cargo vessel, or “Reefer” is registered in the Netherlands Antilles and has called at Dover with bananas, melons and pineapples usually loaded in Costa
Rica or Colombia, South America.
Seen from Langdon Cliffs, is the recent arrival in Dover of the coaster Arklow Rover, built in 2004 and owned by Arklow Shipping. She sailed on the 29th
November 2013 and is due in Aveiro, Portugal on the 3rd December 2013. In common with her running mates, she is a tidy, well kept little coaster and a credit to her owners and
crew.
